Stussy Letter-Print Black T-Shirt Review: The Listing Says Four Seasons; the Bench Says Layer It

Size L measured 55 cm at the chest and 71 cm long; one 30 °C wash took 1.1 cm off the length, and the four-season claim reads more like spring and autumn in Rotterdam.

Stussy Letter-Print Black T-Shirt Review: The Listing Says Four Seasons; the Bench Says Layer It

We ordered the Stussy letter-print tee in the 873 black colourway, size L, against item 7718808120 — listed at $8.06 and in stock at the time of ordering. It arrived through our usual shopping-agent route, was photographed and weighed on arrival, and went straight onto the bench. Everything below comes from that parcel, not from the listing's own description.

Flat measurements, before and after one wash

Priya measured chest, shoulder, sleeve and length flat on the bench, then repeated every figure after a single wash cycle at the temperature shown on the hang tag (30 °C, low spin, hang dry). The listing allows a 1–2 cm tolerance, so these numbers are the ones to size against.

Size L, flat (cm)As deliveredAfter one 30 °C washChange
Chest, pit to pit55.054.4−0.6
Shoulder, seam to seam51.050.6−0.4
Sleeve, shoulder seam to cuff22.021.8−0.2
Length, collar join to hem71.069.9−1.1

A 1.1 cm length loss is roughly 1.6% — real, but inside the tolerance the listing states. The collar rib came back to shape and the shoulder seams stayed level, which is the part we watch most closely on a loose-cut cotton tee.

The four-season line is the weakest claim on the page

The catalog's season field reads all four seasons. On the bench that is generous. Our size L came in at 268 g with a caliper reading of 0.60–0.65 mm at three points, which is consistent with the stated 250–300 gsm long-staple cotton, and the hand is smooth and slightly dry rather than thin. That is a layering weight: comfortable under an overshirt in April, comfortable alone on a 19 °C afternoon, and warm in a Rotterdam July once you add a 34 cm-wide chest graphic. The breathable, moisture-wicking and wrinkle-resistant functions are listed and the finish does keep the fabric from creasing badly out of the parcel, but none of that makes it a hot-weather tee.

Seams, finish and what the care label said

Stitch density came out at 12 stitches to the inch along the hem and 11 at the neck rib join — tidy, even work with no skipped stitches at either point. The non-iron finish gives the cotton a faint crispness that softened noticeably after the wash without changing the drape. There is no printed care label at the inner side seam; the instructions came on a paper hang tag, which is common on this tier and not something we treat as a defect, but it does mean the garment's own care information will not survive the first month.

The print: placement is measurable, durability is not

The white chest graphic — wordmark, city names and a circular emblem — measures 34 cm across by 26 cm high and sits 7 cm below the collar join, centred within 0.4 cm of the shoulder-to-shoulder midpoint. Under the light box the ink reads matte rather than glossy. It survived one wash with no crazing at the edges, but a single cycle tells you almost nothing: buyers of Stussy reps repeatedly flag chest prints wearing over time, and no claim anywhere covers this specific garment. Ask your agent which print method is used before you treat the graphic as a long-term feature.

Sizes, colour codes and the ordering detail that matters

Sizing runs S to XXL with an unusually deep colour run behind a single product code — the 848 to 918 series, in black, white, blue, red, green, beige and grey. Because one code covers dozens of shades, the colourway has to be named explicitly when you order. Our parcel carried the 873 black code and matched it. Note also that the listing's pattern field says "cartoon" while the print is typographic city names; the photograph is the reliable reference, not that field.

What we could not verify

  • Print method and durability. Not stated on the listing and not determinable from a parcel. One wash is not a wear test.
  • Exact fabric weight per square metre. We estimated from garment weight and caliper thickness rather than cutting a swatch out of a tee we intend to keep wearing.
  • Stock stability. This is a 2024-summer listing on a marketplace item page; colorways can drop between ordering and consolidation.

For a buyer, the practical sequence is short: confirm the colour code and the print method with your agent in the same message, take the flat measurements above rather than trusting the size name, and expect to hang dry. On those terms this is a well-made midweight graphic tee with one genuine unknown attached to the graphic itself.

How we tested

Ordered through a shopping agent and opened on the bench: flat measurements at four points, stitch counts of 12 per inch at the hem and 11 at the neck join, caliper thickness at three spots, one 30 °C wash with hang dry. Print method unconfirmed.

Frequently asked

What does a size L measure flat?

Our parcel measured 55 cm pit to pit, 51 cm seam to seam at the shoulder, 22 cm sleeve and 71 cm from collar join to hem, all before washing. After one 30 °C wash the length came down 1.1 cm.

Is this tee warm enough for autumn but too warm for summer?

The catalog lists all four seasons, but at 250–300 gsm with a 34 cm chest graphic we found it a layering piece: good under an overshirt at 15–20 °C, warm on a humid summer afternoon.

How do I make sure I get the black colourway?

One product code covers dozens of shades in the 848–918 series. Name 873 black explicitly when you order, then check the code on the parcel before consolidation.

Editor verdict

Editor verdict

A soft midweight cotton tee whose loose cut behaves exactly as measured; the print's durability is the open question, so confirm the method with your agent before relying on the graphic.

Who this is for

Buyers who want a relaxed midweight crew-neck graphic tee for spring and autumn layering and will confirm print details with their agent first.

Who should skip

Anyone who needs certified print durability, a fitted cut, or a genuinely summer-weight tee for hot weather.

What works

  • Midweight long-staple cotton with a smooth hand that softened after washing.
  • Loose cut confirmed on the bench: 55 cm chest and 51 cm shoulder in size L.
  • Deep colour run behind one SKU, so a reorder in 873 black is simple.

Watch-outs

  • Print method and durability unconfirmed; Stussy buyers report chest graphics wearing over time.
  • Four-season listing feels warm for a Rotterdam July under a 34 cm chest graphic.
  • No care label at the side seam, and a 1–2 cm tolerance, so fit planning is on you.
